LibriVox recording of The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde. Dorian Gray, a young man of wealth and stature in late 1800's London, meets Lord Henry Wotton while posing for a portrait by his friend Basil Hallward. Once the painting is complete, Dorian realizes that it will always be young and attractive, while he will be forced to age and wither with the years. Carelessly, he wishes the opposite were true. What happens is a treatise on morals, self-indulgence and how crucial personal...

An unsold pilot from 1964. A sketch comedy show. Produced by Jay Ward Productions for the CBS Television Network. Although not picked up, the pilot was nevertheless broadcast (I assume in edited form, as the version presented here is 33-and-a-half minutes without commercials).

An episode of the late-1950s variety series "The Big Party". Each episode was a whopping 90 minutes. In this episode, Rock Hudson throws a party, his guests include the multi-talented Sammy Davis Jr. (is there anything he can't do?), Tallulah Bankhead, an under-used Esther Williams, a surprising (by 1959 TV standards) Mort Sahl, and other celebrities. Barbara Britton is also around to give us lots of Revlon commercials, and was the only recurring cast member in the short-lived series.

LibriVox recording of Pamphilia to Amphilanthus by Lady Mary. Pamphilia to Amphilanthus is the first sonnet sequence written by an Englishwoman. Published in 1621, the poems invert the usual format of sonnet sequences by making the speaker a woman (Pamphilia, whose name means "all-loving") and the beloved a man (Amphilanthus, whose name means "lover of two."). It is possible that Wroth based the story on her own fraught relationship with her cousin, William Herbert. (Summary...

A two-part film, actually two concurrent stories, that reveals the dissolution of an 18-year marriage from two points of view. The stories are set in Rome, where the wealthy Martin and Jane Reynolds (Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor) meet by chance after a two-year separation. In the first of the two stories, Martin has returned to Rome on business, representing an African managerial firm. Martin remembers his marriage as a rather sado-masochistic union. Part two examines the marriage from...

An episode of Dinah Shore's popular music show, which aired in a 15-minute time-slot. This somewhat deteriorated episode features a "modern" set for one of the songs, which is cool. There's also a couple Irish songs done in a more simple manner. Like a lot of 1953 television, it aired live. Not registered with U.S. copyright office and no copyright notice, though I imagine most of the songs are still copyrighted.

THE EVENT OF THE SEASON  A nuclear war might have a disastrous effect on a society lady's garden party... With Geraldine McEwan and Maureen Lipman Produced by Richard Wortley A bravura piece by Perry Pontac, a stylish radio dramatist, most recently in evidence with 'Casual Slaughters', a send-up of the classical whodunit. It is designedly absurd and outrageous, fizzing with wit and grotesque fancy. The dialogue is very carefully wrought, evoking comparisons with Wilde, Ronald Firbank and Joe...

EDIT: 1/9/19. A sharper print ("21 DAYS TOGETER upgrade") has been added.  “Superb suspense thriller” “Well played out story” “Well-worth watching” “Limp and unconvincing” “Disappointed” (IMDB reviews quotes). A romantic suspense thriller that failed to hit the mark, and thus its release was delayed for three years, that is until Olivier and Leigh were better known on both sides of the Atlantic. (see TRIVIA) Good supporting cast. IMDB rating 6.3. Directed by Basil...

Let's practice the male body, starting with the most generic shape. Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes, but I thought itd be smart to start with the most opposite from my go to body type which is usually on the more extreme feminine side. Classic sci-fi from 1961. A rocket crashes on an invisible planet during an investigation. The surviving astronaut encounters a race of miniature people: the women are VERY interested! The low budget belies the fact films like this were thematically the precursor to modern sci-fi. [NB - This feature film currently comes in 2 parts, please download both of the .MP4 files listed on the left-hand side of the page in order to grab the entire film.] Part 1 Part 2 You can find more information...

Another episode from Robert Young's next series after Father Knows Best . Don't bother downloading the h.264 file or the Ogg Video file; the Cinepack file from which they are derived is smaller.
